Bone Spur Treatment
Bone Spur Pain Relief
Bone spurs are painful bumps on your feet caused by joint damage from arthritis. When cartilage is worn down in your feet, you’ll experience painful inflammation when your foot bones grind together. This actually changes the structure of your bones, creating tiny spurs.
Diagnosing a Bone Spur
If you’re experiencing foot pain, you may need x-rays to rule out a bone spur. Though many doctors don’t take the time to fully understand any underlying causes of your bone spur, that is not the case with us. We work collaboratively with you so that we can fully understand your condition and what the root cause of it is.
The conditions that most often cause bone spurs include:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Ankylosing spondylitis, chronic inflammation of the spine
- Reactive arthritis, also known as Reiter’s disease
- Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, also known as DISH or Forestier’s disease
Of course, not every case of bone spurs are related to these conditions, but we believe in creating a treatment plan based on fully and completely understanding what is causing your pain.
Treatment for Your Bone Spur
Unfortunately, if your feet are severely damaged from years of pressure, you could require surgery to correct the structure of your foot. However, if you meet with one of our trusted and award-winning Suffolk, North Suffolk, or Hampton, Virginia (VA), foot specialists at the first sign of bone spurs, you may be able to avoid further damage with custom orthotics and other non-surgical treatments. Typically, you can avoid unnecessary foot pain and potentially surgery if you address your symptoms early enough.
