FAQs
What conditions do your specialists treat?
Our board-certified podiatrists treat a broad range of foot and ankle conditions, from routine concerns to more complex injuries. Common reasons patients visit include:
- Ingrown toenails and fungal nail infections
- Heel and arch pain, including plantar fasciitis
- Sprains, fractures, and other acute injuries
- Bunions and other structural foot changes
- Diabetic foot checks and wound monitoring
We encourage patients to schedule an evaluation for any persistent foot or ankle concern, even if it seems minor, since early diagnosis often leads to simpler treatment.
Can a podiatrist help with foot pain caused by sports activities?
Yes. A significant number of our patients are active adults and student athletes managing pain related to training or competition. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, our specialists evaluate gait and biomechanics to identify the underlying cause of the strain. Based on that evaluation, treatment may include:
- Custom orthotics designed to correct a specific alignment issue
- A structured physical therapy plan to rebuild strength safely
- Guidance on adjusting training volume or footwear
- Bracing to support the area during recovery
This approach is designed to help patients return to activity while reducing the likelihood of re-injury.
What should I expect during my first foot and ankle evaluation?
Your first visit generally includes the following steps:
- A detailed discussion of your symptoms, including when they began and how they affect your daily activities
- A physical examination to assess swelling, range of motion, and areas of tenderness
- On-site digital X-rays, if your provider determines imaging is needed
- A clear explanation of your diagnosis and treatment plan, communicated without unnecessary medical jargon
We recommend noting when your symptoms started and any factors that worsen them, as this information helps your provider evaluate your condition efficiently.
Do you offer non-surgical treatment options before recommending surgery?
Yes. The majority of conditions we treat are resolved without surgery. Before considering a surgical approach, our specialists typically recommend:
- Custom-molded orthotics for structural support
- Stretching routines and structured physical therapy
- Laser or shockwave therapy for chronic pain
- Anti-inflammatory injections for joint or tendon irritation
- Footwear adjustments suited to your foot structure
If surgery is ultimately recommended, your provider will explain the procedure and recovery process in detail before you make any decisions.
Can I get a second opinion on a foot or ankle condition or proposed surgery?
Yes, and we welcome second-opinion requests. Our team will review your existing imaging and medical history, conduct our own evaluation, and provide an independent clinical assessment. This process may confirm your original diagnosis or identify additional treatment options for you to consider.
Do you accept my insurance, and how can I confirm my coverage?
We accept most major insurance plans, including but not limited to Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, Optima Health, Tricare East Region, and United Healthcare. Since coverage details vary by plan, we recommend calling our office ahead of your visit so our team can confirm your specific benefits.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Same-week appointments are typically available, and same-day openings are common as well. In most cases, a referral is not required to schedule a visit. For urgent concerns, such as sudden swelling or an inability to bear weight, call us for immediate availability options so you can be evaluated promptly.
Do you provide on-site digital X-rays?
Yes. Every 1Foot 2Foot location is equipped with on-site digital X-ray imaging, allowing most patients to complete their exam and imaging in a single visit.
How will I receive my diagnostic test or imaging results?
Results are shared securely through our online Patient Portal as soon as they are available. We then schedule a follow-up appointment so your provider can review the findings with you and outline a personalized treatment plan.
How often should I visit a podiatrist?
Recommended frequency depends on your individual risk factors and activity level:
- Generally healthy adults: an annual check-up, more often if you use orthotics
- Patients with diabetes or circulation concerns: at least one visit per year, sometimes more frequent monitoring for those at higher risk.
- Active individuals: an annual biomechanical evaluation can help identify overuse patterns before they lead to injury
- Acute pain or injury: we recommend scheduling a visit promptly rather than waiting
Because same-day and same-week appointments are typically available, there is rarely a need to delay care.
