The Shoe Fits: Our On-Site Shoe Stores

Comfort Shoe Stores in Hampton Roads, Virginia
A shoe that doesn’t fit right is often the actual source of the pain, not the foot itself. At our Downtown Suffolk, Hampton, and North Suffolk locations, every pair on the shelf has already been reviewed and approved by our own podiatrists.
You don’t need to be a 1Foot 2Foot patient to shop with us. Our fitters work with anyone looking for footwear that actually supports how they move, not just what looks good on the shelf. We’d rather send you home without a purchase than sell you something that doesn’t fit.
Why a Proper Shoe Fitting Matters
Most people haven’t had their feet professionally measured since childhood, even though feet keep changing shape and size well into adulthood.
A proper fitting checks more than length. It looks at:
- Arch type
- Foot width
- How your foot moves while you walk
Getting that combination right affects more than comfort. It changes how your whole body is aligned when you’re on your feet. Our fitters are trained to catch what a quick try-on in a shoe store won’t. That’s the difference between a shoe that looks right and one that actually works for your foot.
Can Your Shoe Size Change Over Time?
If you’ve worn the same size for years, there’s a real chance it no longer fits the way you think it does. Independent research on shoe fit found that only around a third of people wear the correct length and width. That mismatch shows up as more than discomfort. Poorly fitting shoes are commonly linked to:
- Hammertoe and other toe deformities
- Corns and calluses from repeated friction
- Posture or alignment issues that travel up the leg
It isn’t only about size, either. Shape and construction matter just as much, and both are easy to overlook if it’s been a while since your last measurement.

What Is a Shoe Fitting?
At The Shoe Fits, a fitting means a real evaluation, not a quick measurement. Our on-site fitters check width, arch type, and foot shape, then match you with something built to support how you actually move.
Every location carries extended sizes and widths that are hard to find at a typical shoe store, along with inserts, pads, and specialty socks to round out the fit.
Types of Shoe Fittings We Offer
Find the option that fits your needs.
Traditional Fitting
A hands-on measurement of length, width, and arch shape, along with a conversation about how and where you’ll be wearing the shoe. Recommendations come from our curated, podiatrist-informed inventory. No patient status required.
Therapeutic or Diabetic Fitting
Built for patients managing diabetes, neuropathy, or significant foot deformities. These shoes use a wider toe box, deeper interior, and firmer, full-contact sole designed to protect feet with reduced sensation. Anyone can be fitted for this style. If you’re a 1Foot 2Foot patient and meet certain criteria, insurance may cover some or all of the cost. Ask about a diabetic foot exam to find out.

Footwear and Products We Carry
While you don’t have to be a patient of 1Foot 2Foot or a client of Stems Spa to shop with us, most people end up using all three.
We carry diabetic and therapeutic footwear, athletic shoes, orthotic-friendly designs, inserts and pads, and a full range of compression and specialty socks. Everything on our shelves has already been reviewed by our podiatry team, so you’re not left guessing which brands are actually worth trying.
Socks for Foot Health
Often underappreciated and overlooked, socks do more work than people realize:
- Provide cushion to protect your feet from blisters
- Absorb sweat and help keep odor at bay
- Help protect feet and toenails from fungus
- Provide shock absorption on the bottom of your foot
We Offer:
- Compression Socks — designed to prevent fluid pooling around the lower leg and foot and improve circulation. Can help prevent muscle fatigue and varicose veins for those on their feet for long hours.
- Diabetic Socks — built with graduated compression to support circulation in the foot, stay in place, and offer comfort, ventilation, and light arch support.
- Colorful Dress Socks — you shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and style. Made of top-quality Turkish cotton that’s soft, affordable, and available in a range of colors.
- Moisturizing Socks — soothe and hydrate dry, rough feet from heel to toe. Fortified with vitamins, nutrients, and essential oils to restore skin’s soft, supple feel. Hypoallergenic, washable, and reusable.
