Plantar Warts Treatment That Works
Get relief from painful plantar warts with Swift microwave therapy, a modern approach that targets the HPV virus at its root.

What You Need To Know
Here is what plantar warts are, how to spot them, and when to see a podiatrist.
Understanding Plantar Warts
“Plantar” means “of the sole” in Latin. Plantar warts are small lesions that usually appear on the heels or other weight-bearing areas of your feet. Unlike other types of warts, plantar warts are typically quite painful as the pressure from walking and standing forces them to grow into your skin.
Like all warts, plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), specifically types 1, 2, 4, 60, and 63. The virus enters your body through tiny cuts, breaks, or other weak spots on the bottom of your feet. Underneath the skin, the wart can have finger-like roots that reach down and grow, making them very difficult to treat effectively from the surface.
Common symptoms to look out for include:
– The feeling of “painful pebbles” in your shoes
– Pain when you compress the sides of the wart
– A circular flat spot on the skin with a depressed area in the middle
– A “yellowed” appearance with a crust, and small black dots as an easy giveaway
– A lesion that is painful, bleeding, or has changed color
Although plantar warts are not a serious health concern, they can become painful and, if ignored, tend to spread and multiply on the feet. The longer you wait to seek treatment, the more likely the wart is to persist. If you suspect you have a plantar wart, contact our office so we can evaluate it and recommend the right treatment for you.
Swift Microwave Therapy for Warts
At 1Foot 2Foot Centre for Foot and Ankle Care, we offer Swift microwave therapy for wart removal. Swift is an FDA-cleared technology that has proven to be highly effective in the removal of plantar warts. It delivers low dose microwave energy through a specialized probe that targets and treats the underlying HPV virus by stimulating a natural immune response in the body. We like to say that we are addressing the root cause, not the symptom.
The Swift protocol involves between 3 and 4 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart, aligning with the body’s natural immune cycle. Each treatment lasts only 5 to 10 minutes and is what we call a “sock off, sock on” treatment: limited debridement, no breaking of the skin, and no bandages. No home treatment is required between visits, and patients can resume daily activities immediately after treatment.
Does Swift hurt? Pain is variable and patient-specific, but most patients feel some level of discomfort as infected tissue temperatures are rapidly elevated over a two-second dose of energy. The pain immediately subsides once energy delivery stops, and post-procedural pain is very limited. Some patients even report an immediate reduction in pain levels.
Because Swift harnesses the power of the patient’s immune system to target the root cause of the wart, efficacy is significantly higher compared to other treatment methods. If you would like to get rid of your warts or explore Swift treatment, book an appointment with us and one of our specialists will be happy to help.
